Tiny footprints are oldest evidence of reptiles

The fossil footprints showed five slender toes, suggesting an ancient reptile made the tracks, since amphibians sport four stubby toes on each "hand." A tiny reptile scampering along an Outback-like environment snagging insects some 318 million years ago left behind footprints that are now the oldest evidence of reptiles to date.

In order to promote its Nook e-book reader and compete with Amazon's Kindle, Barnes & Noble is creating 1,000-square-foot Nook Boutiques in its stores. The first, shown here, is at a Barnes & Noble store in Livingston, N.J.Barnes & Noble said Friday it's creating boutiques within its stores for its Nook e-reader to "showcase" the digital device, software and accessories.

Virtual cookie monster controls flavor

The Meta Cookie headset contains virtual reality video screens (in the white box), a camera to register the augmented reality marker on the cookie (the black box on the bottom) and tubes for the cookie scents. At the SIGGRAPH computer animation and interactive technology conference, a research team unveiled a Meta Cookie system, which uses virtual reality to try to control the flavor of a cookie.
